Ready for a #ThrowbackThursday?!
This week on The Underdog Diaries we are featuring HANNAH and her mama, Amanda! Hannah was one of the first dogs TLRD saved back in May of 2012.
One of the main reasons we thought of Hannah when starting this project was because 1. we've had the pleasure of watching Hannah grow up over the years on Instagram 2. Amanda adopted Hannah when she was only 24 years old. And if we're being honest, we don't usually adopt bully breeds to the younger crowd anymore because the return rate is almost 100%. So, we wanted to celebrate Amanda and all the hard work she had to put in with Hannah at such a young age. Hannah wasn't perfect and Amanda knew that from the beginning, but she never gave up. In fact, Amanda and her husband recently adopted a puppy from TLRD, which wouldn't have been possible with Hannah a few years ago.
Hannah is a great dog because her owners are great! Even though it's been 8 years, we asked Amanda a few questions about their rescue journey and here is what she shared...
What were some of the challenges you faced when you first brought Hannah home?
My roommate at the time and I had cats and surprisingly Hannah and my cat Jason got along right away, but she did not like the other two cats so it was a little rough at first. Hannah also had and still has separation anxiety so I always came home to something chewed up. A pillow, a blanket, the couch...haha
And what were some of the rewards once you adjusted to those challenges?
Just having her with me is the reward, everyone makes mistakes but Hannah is just an earth angel despite those little issues.
What's something unique about Hannah's personality?
Hannah gets embarrassed. I've never seen a dog get embarrassed until I had her. EVERY TIME she farts, she looks right at us, gets up and walks away with her tail between her legs.
What's your favorite trait about Hannah?
I love her expressive eyes and my husband says "her squishy face".
How does Hannah match up to your lifestyle? As in, do you both like to hike? Couch potatoes? OR did you have to adjust your lifestyle once you got Hannah?
We are all couch potatoes over here! Hannah loves to nap, but she's also been a great hiking buddy when I lived in Washington. She just wants to be wherever we are.
How does Hannah make you a better human?
I adopted Hannah when I was 24 so she's taught me a lot over the years. Responsibility, compassion, how to care for another being before myself. Loving her is one of the reasons I went vegan too.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about going to a breeder to get a dog?
I would show them TLRD and other great organizations that have so many babies in need of a home and try to make them understand why buying from breeders is a bad idea.
Anything else you want to share about Hannah?
I just want to say that I'm forever in debt to TLRD for saving Hannah because I don't think I could have gotten this far without her and I know I'll never find another baby like her again. Hannah is the sweetest, smartest, most beautiful dog in the world, but I guess you always feel that way about your own babies:)
Okay, is that not THE cutest picture ever?!
We want to give a huge thank you to Amanda for being such an amazing forever mama to Hannah and now, Melvin! And thank you for sharing how life-changing adopting an underdog can be. We are so grateful for adopters and supporters like Amanda!
Well, we hope you enjoyed another entry of The Underdog Diaries. Check back weekly for new features! In the meantime, here's where you can find more from TLRD:
